Focus, Darling!

The devo I’m sharing with you today started out by making me laugh, and ended up making me feel like I had been wrapped up in a nice warm blanket. Enjoy!

You are blessed,

Focusing on the Right Things
By Lisa Buffaloe

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

Several months ago, I walked across a parking lot and focused on the door where I would be doing business. A few moments later, I found myself sprawled on the sidewalk. Fortunately, my nose broke the fall. Unfortunately, said appendage sustained damage and still has a slight tilt to the left.

Amazing how a fall shifts the viewpoint. Who knew there was actually a curb?

When trials come there is a zeroing in on the things we hold dear. Immediately, the path warrants our attention opposed to the surroundings. Life’s difficulties readjust our focus.

Whether I live ten more days or fifty more years, I want to experience life to the fullest. God has walked me through the fires, through the raging waters, and never left my side. I may come out dripping wet or charred and smokin’ but I have found more of Him. I pray for health (and good eyesight), but more than that I pray and beg for more of Him.

God is faithful. He is big enough to handle whatever you face today, and whatever comes your way tomorrow. There is no illness, no diagnosis, no heartache, and no problem too big for God. The same God who created the universe, set the planets in motion, and placed the stars in the sky, is the God who knows the numbers of hairs on your head.

No detail is too small, nothing in your life is overlooked, and nothing is impossible for God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father regardless of the difficulties of life, help me to stay focused on You. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You and not my difficulties. Thank you that You are over all things and always in control.

That’s Not a Lemon, That’s Lemonade in Waiting!

When you look at things..do you see them as they are? Or do you look past the surface, and see them as they could be? As they will be if effort is applied? Is it a sour, bitter lemon? Or is it the key ingredient to an ice cold, refreshing summer drink?

I have an update on Matt for you. He went in for an MRI last week and the results were good. There’s no cancer or anything, but there are a few cysts on his pancreas. Apparently that’s not unusual? Interesting! Anyway, so that was good to hear. They’re now passing him onto another specialist. Mom said a doc gave him a list of foods he can try eating..foods..not liquids…FOODS! Progress!

Im not going to try and pass a lie off to you and say that it’s not been extremely frustrating for me to stay positive at times. It has. I will find myself slipping into anger over the doctors, and have to then remind myself..they are doctors, not THE Doctor. They are not Matt’s healer, He is. And so, I choose to continue to praise Him in advance for complete restoration of every cell in Matt’s body.

But it is a very conscious choice, friends.

If I don’t choose to praise, I won’t.

If I don’t choose to be hopeful, I’m not.

Because with human eyes, this experience is just too hard on a sister’s heart. I must constantly choose to look with spirit eyes. I must choose to see things through the veil of faith. I must choose see things not as they are, but as they will be.

“..So the promise is good in the sight of God, in whom Abraham believed—the God who brings the dead to life and whose command brings into being what did not exist.” Romans 4:17b

In what area(s) of your life are you having to apply this scripture?

Let me encourage you to embrace the reality that He’s still on the throne, still working miracles, still answering prayers, and He still has His eyes firmly planted on you. He loves you, He’s working all things for your good, He knows your struggle, and He is not about to leave you alone. Look up, friends!

Thanks so much for all of the encouraging comments, texts, emails, prayers, smiles, and hugs. You all encourage me so much! I know that in relation to other things going on in the world, this struggle is small. But, I thank my God that my struggles are important to Him, no matter the size. He has time for me. He has time for you, too. Call on Him today.

“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”
– 1 Peter 5:7

Today’s Devo selection:

TRUSTING GOD

And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

– Genesis 21:1
“You have to be kidding me. You want me to do what?” I asked my father as a wry smirk came across his face. “Just trust me,” was his reply.
Trust, it’s not something that is easily done. Sometimes it means letting go of what you believe, what you feel is rational, and putting it in someone else’s control. It means letting things leave your control, and having hope that the person [or thing] you are trusting in comes through.
Of course, there are easier times to have trust. It seems a lot easier to trust God after winning a million dollars, or getting a new job, or having something good happen to you… but it seems so much harder to trust Him when things aren’t going right.
Sometimes we find ourselves acting like Sarah. We know that God has promised to take care of us, but looking at the situation we almost doubt that He is able. Like Sarah, when we hear that good news is coming, we find ourselves sarcastically laughing. (Genesis 18:12-14)
I’ve always wondered what Sarah thought of that laugh after she knew she was pregnant. I’ve always wondered how foolish she felt, for doubting God.
Because no matter how chaotic things appear to be, or how much we are struggling, God is right there with us. And while we may not always be able to depend on our jobs, or our banks, or even our government, we can always depend on God. Because God not only keeps His word, just as He did with Sarah and Abraham, but nothing can stop God from keeping His word. (Job 42:2)
Today, what struggles do you face? What challenges are in your life? And most importantly, where are you putting your hope? (Romans 5:2-5)
