Mountain Climbing

When you think you can’t go on, keep going anyway. It’s when the night seems darkest, that the dawn is closest. You will make it through. Lean on His everlasting arms, and there’s nothing that can take you under. You will be ok. You will smile again. Don’t give up, look up!

That’s Not a Lemon, That’s Lemonade in Waiting!

When you look at things..do you see them as they are? Or do you look past the surface, and see them as they could be? As they will be if effort is applied? Is it a sour, bitter lemon? Or is it the key ingredient to an ice cold, refreshing summer drink?

I have an update on Matt for you. He went in for an MRI last week and the results were good. There’s no cancer or anything, but there are a few cysts on his pancreas. Apparently that’s not unusual? Interesting! Anyway, so that was good to hear. They’re now passing him onto another specialist. Mom said a doc gave him a list of foods he can try eating..foods..not liquids…FOODS! Progress!

Im not going to try and pass a lie off to you and say that it’s not been extremely frustrating for me to stay positive at times. It has. I will find myself slipping into anger over the doctors, and have to then remind myself..they are doctors, not THE Doctor. They are not Matt’s healer, He is. And so, I choose to continue to praise Him in advance for complete restoration of every cell in Matt’s body.

But it is a very conscious choice, friends.

If I don’t choose to praise, I won’t.

If I don’t choose to be hopeful, I’m not.

Because with human eyes, this experience is just too hard on a sister’s heart. I must constantly choose to look with spirit eyes. I must choose to see things through the veil of faith. I must choose see things not as they are, but as they will be.

“..So the promise is good in the sight of God, in whom Abraham believed—the God who brings the dead to life and whose command brings into being what did not exist.” Romans 4:17b

In what area(s) of your life are you having to apply this scripture?

Let me encourage you to embrace the reality that He’s still on the throne, still working miracles, still answering prayers, and He still has His eyes firmly planted on you. He loves you, He’s working all things for your good, He knows your struggle, and He is not about to leave you alone. Look up, friends!

Thanks so much for all of the encouraging comments, texts, emails, prayers, smiles, and hugs. You all encourage me so much! I know that in relation to other things going on in the world, this struggle is small. But, I thank my God that my struggles are important to Him, no matter the size. He has time for me. He has time for you, too. Call on Him today.

“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”
– 1 Peter 5:7

Here are the lyrics too:

With one word
The storm will be gone
With one word the war will be won
With one word
I know I can overcome

With one word
The blind man can see
With one word the captive is free
With one word: the name of Jesus

Your name is sweeter
Than honey on my lips
Your name is power
In every circumstance

Jesus, in Your name
We’ll make mountains disappear
When we’re conquerors of fear
One word

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

With one word my soul is relieved
With one word the devil will flee
With one word
My hurricane winds will cease
Through one word
The world came to be

Through one word
The world is redeemed
Through one word
The name of Jesus

Through one word
The world is redeemed
Through one word
The name of Jesus

Encouragement: Better Than Discouragement!

20130626-230435.jpg

Have a great day today, and take the time to make someone feel special. We all have a spare moment to do a little something for someone, or say a kind word to someone. A little encouragement goes a long way. Go on now, get to it!

Also, please continue praying for my brother, Matt, today (Thursday) as he goes into a new doctor. We are praying, and believing for, answers! And solutions! And progress! And peace! And total healing! The enemy is fighting hard, but we know that his fighting is a reaction to The Lord doing something good. He wouldn’t fight if he had nothing to fight against. So we praise The Lord even through the trials. Everyday with Him is a beautiful one, challenges or not.

You are blessed,

Sarah

Encourage Someone Today!
By Andy at http://www.gospel.com

There’s nothing quite so uplifting as receiving an unexpected compliment or a kind word in the midst of a hectic day. And on the flip side, we’ve all had a day ruined by a careless or cruel remark. Words have tremendous power to encourage or to hurt. That’s the message of this devotional from Daily Encounter, which challenges us to offer encouragement to someone today:

Every one of us “young and old alike” needs encouragement. To encourage someone is to put courage into them. To discourage is to take courage out of them. It costs nothing to put courage into another… to speak a kind word… to let them know you appreciate them… to tell them you believe in them… that you admire them… to thank them and so on.

So, today, make a point of putting courage into your spouse… your children… your boss… your employees… and the clerk at the local store. Go out of your way to do it. And in blessing others you will be blessed yourself.

Offering encouragement is one of the simplest but most effective ways you can reflect Christ’s love to others. Take a look around you, whether you’re sitting in an office cubicle, your living room, or an airport terminal. Who do you see who could use an encouraging word? Why not take a moment to say something kind?

Tired but Soaring

I found this devotional so comforting, especially right now. I’m tired. Physically and emotionally. But my spirit is soaring. And that’s because I know that I’m not alone. That no matter what the world brings, as long as I’m with Him, I will soar on wings like eagles.

Do you know that? That you’re never alone? That He’s always there with you? Ready to hold you through the night? He is. Always.

You are blessed,

Sarah

Today’s devo selection:

Are You Tired Lately?
By Tiffany @ www.teawithtiffany.com/

I’ve noticed a disturbing trend recently.

Everyone I talk to is tired. Tired of daily stress. Tired of busyness. Tired of summer heat. Tired of financial or health problems. Tired of praying. Tired of their loved ones. And tired of even trying.

Last week, my college-aged son and his two friends were in a ugly car wreck. Their lives were spared by only a second or two. Wow, as a mom that was hard to see. Thank God, they are not hurt. Anyway as I stood nearby the accident, one of the moms said, “I’m just so tired,” And as tears fell from her eyes, she repeated, “I’m just so tired.”

I understand because I’m tired too.

Lately I’ve thought things like, why bother and who cares. I’ve even considered about giving up on my dreams and running away from my responsibilities. You name it, I’ve thought it. I know this isn’t faith-filled thinking. More like destruction waiting to happen.

So how can we keep the faith when we are beyond tired, when weariness hits hard?

I think I found a clue as I reread a chapter in Isaiah. It’s chapter 4o, which is subtitled, “Comfort for God’s People.”

Who doesn’t need a little more comfort these days?

I know I do.

I won’t post the whole chapter here, but I will share the last several verses for your encouragement.

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Did you notice our God never grows tired or weary?

What comfort.

These verses also remind me that I cannot find new strength on my own or in anything. But I can renew my strength by hoping again. And not just any hope, but hope in the Lord. What a relief because hoping in Tiffany isn’t working.

Feeling hopeless is dangerous territory.

So today I’m focused on hope again.

Everlasting God, I’m comforted by reading that You never tire or grow weary. Please renew my strength as I once again place my hope in You. In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Thankful and feeling a little less tired,
Tiffany from Tea with Tiffany

Graduation! And a Matt Update!

20130530-225815.jpg

Well tomorrow, our baby girl graduates from high school. She’s graduating a year early! So proud of her. It’s funny how time flies. One minute you’re wishing that baby would start talking so you can know what they want. The next minute you’re helping them try on their cap and gown.

She’s an amazing girl with a heart of gold. Her future plans consist of earning her major in Sociology and her minor in Multi Ethnic Studies. Then, she can get on to what she really wants to do…mission work, and writing that goes hand in hand with that mission work.

I’m so blessed, and in awe, that The Lord entrusted us with this beautiful miracle. It blows me away.

In other news, Matt is still in the hospital, and will be (reportedly) through the weekend. Please continue to lift him up in prayer. I hope to be able to see him tomorrow morning. I want to take Ash in to see him while she’s wearing her cap and gown so he can see her, since he won’t be able to attend the graduation. If I make it through that without having to be admitted myself for an emotional breakdown, it will be a miracle! 😉

One thing I know for sure is that God is GOOD, and worthy to be praised! In the good times, in the bad times, in the in between times. Praising confuses the enemy! So praise Him in advance, friends! Your breakthrough is on the way!

Scripture:
Now to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us, to Him be all glory in the church and in Jesus the Anointed from this generation to the next, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayers for Matt

20130528-230304.jpg

(*Disclaimer: That’s not actually me and my brother. 😉 )

I have an update, friends. Turns out my brother, Matt, doesn’t have the flu. He is fighting acute pancreatitis. He’s been admitted to the hospital, so we are believing he will begin recovering quickly!

Please join us in continuing to pray for him, and that The Lord would direct the hands and minds of the Doctors and Nurses who work with Matt while he’s there. We know that The Lord will turn this situation for good, and that His plan for Matt’s future is a bright one!

A few things about Matt…He is one of the most caring and giving people I know. He gives until he has nothing left, and then he gives some more. He has a heart for those in need all over the world. Matt isn’t happy with just talking the talk, he regularly walks the walk. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. I will never forget seeing the pictures of him on a mission trip, surrounded by children. Playing games with them, laughing with them, just spending time loving them. He never boasts about the things he does, in fact we have to drag the information out of him! If he read this paragraph he’d probably tell me to delete the post! He just does good because thats who he is, not because of how it makes him look in the eyes of others. And, holy cannoli, is he funny. He can get me laughing like no one else can. I can’t magically transform myself into a doctor and fix him, even though I’d love to! But, I can do something even better. I can call on our Jesus, and I know He will come to the rescue!

Thanks so much for praying with us. I want you to know that you all are in my prayers as well. No matter what you’re fighting, there is a God who cares for you. He knows every hair on your head, He hasn’t forgotten you. You matter! If you ever have a prayer request, please feel free to email me (mrsmendiola@me.com), or leave the request on one of my posts in the comment section.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the middle of them. – Matthew 18:20 NKJV
