Would You Drop Everything?

IMG_2521.PNG

My son and I were nearly killed this morning in traffic. Our lives were spared at the last moment when I felt something physically take my hand on the steering wheel and jerk us quickly to safety in the lane next to us. It was divine intervention. I had my own plans (braking and honking). The Lord had different plans. He saw what I couldn’t see with my own eyes. He saw our lives were in jeopardy and intervened. Some may say, “No, Sarah, those were your reflexes.” I can assure you, there were no reflexes involved. I encounter these situations daily, I wasn’t phased by what was happening (someone running a light and turning in front of me). I was calm and doing what I normally do. It was the Lord who moved us.

I’ve been contemplating the situation all day (as well as a few other situations). Why were we spared? People die everyday. No one person more deserving than the next. What was the Lord trying to show me? I could’ve lost my son. My son could’ve lost me. Our family could’ve lost both of us.

I figured I wasn’t spared so I could sit on the couch and watch tv. ;0) So I decided to get up and get my cleaning done.

While cleaning the bathrooms, I was praying. Who doesn’t! Wait is it just me who does that? :0) Anyway, I wasn’t praying anything in particular, not an organized prayer by any means, no words. More just an open heart to the Holy Spirit..letting Him flow into my heart, soul and mind without barriers. That’s my favorite kind of “prayer”. More of an invitation for His input, I suppose.

I heard Him say these words to my spirit, “If you had to lose everyone and everything dear to you in order to follow Me, would you?”

My first thought was instinctively, “Yes, Lord.”

Then I saw snippets of everyone I love in my life, every thing I have that I hold dear. Every sunny day. Every healthy breath. My family. My best friends. My car. My home. My bed. My dogs. My mind. My abilities.

Again, I hear, “If you had to lose everyone and everything dear to you in order to follow Me, would you?”

Again, with a lump in my throat, “Yes, Father. Even if I have to lose everything, I choose You.”

I ache to my core to think of losing people in order to follow Christ and His will. But if it means He is pleased in me, if it means I get to spend eternity with Him, I will. He is my first love.

I want to encourage you to stay on the path. To keep Him first, even when it hurts. Even when your flesh cries out in anguish and you can’t understand why His way is best. One day it will all make perfect sense, but it doesn’t have to make sense now. We have to be like Simon and Andrew. We need to drop everything, and follow.

When we are standing face to face with the Almighty God, it will all make perfect sense.

I think we were spared today because I needed a reminder that everything here on earth fades, it can be gone in an instant, but He remains.

He’s asking for us to go deeper. To let go of the things we have a death grip on, and refocus our attention on Him. It’s not our agenda that matters, it’s His. We need to make His agenda our agenda.

Wanted
Dara Maclean

Lyrics:

From the day you were born
And took your first breath
You opened your eyes and in came the light
He was watching you
But all of your life you couldn’t shake the lies in your head
Saying you’re a mistake
Oh but you were made
By a God who knows your name
He doesn’t make mistakes

CHORUS
You are wanted
To every broken heart, He stands with open arms
You are wanted
To every searching soul, look to the rising sun
If you’re lonely, hurting, gone too far
To the outcast you come as you are
For you, you are wanted, you, you are wanted
You, you are wanted, you, you are wanted

Let this be the day that joy takes the place
Of all of the years that shame tried to steal away
He is calling you
Lift your eyes to see His face
Come run into the arms of grace

CHORUS

You, you have been marked
You’re set apart
And He calls you His
So you don’t have to search
Don’t have to look for where you belong

You are wanted

CHORUS

Waving the White Flag of Surrender

20130805-091316.jpg

Here are some thoughts (below) on surrender to start off our week! I’ve read through them quite a few times already..letting them sink in.

To some, surrender might sound scary. To me, it sounds like a Calgon bath. Finally, we don’t have to figure it all out, or try to control it. We don’t have to keep trying to push Him off the throne so we can sit down. We just have to surrender, and be His hands and feet. No more fighting, just peaceful surrendering. Yes, please!

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
Run to God!
Proverbs 3:5-7a

Have a great Monday, friends. 🙂 Also, please continue to keep my brother, Matt, and Chris’ Uncle Tim in your prayers. Thank you!

Onward and upward,

Sarah

Here are the thoughts on surrender I spoke of, by Iyanla Vanzant:

Surrender allows us to face the thing we fear before it becomes a reality. The fear of being wrong. The fear of losing control. The fear of being found out. Most of the time, the thing we fear has absolutely no power, yet we brace ourselves for the worst possibility. In that defensive posture we keep our minds fixed on what could or might happen. The fear of facing that imaginary negative outcome is what keeps us paralyzed. Surrender places us in the offensive position. It gives us the opportunity to plan, and to move according to the plan.

____________________________________________________

Surrender helps you to become willing to live through the experience, without giving your entire life over to it. It also makes room in your heart and mind for the Divine to give you a new idea. A new thought. When you surrender, give up the fear thoughts, and give up the control of a situation, you open the way for a miracle to take place.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.

20130620-104936.jpg

None of us knows when our days here on earth will end.

So many of us just assume we will experience the whole “Sitting on the rocking chair on the front porch, watching the grand kids play while we sip on iced tea” moment.

For some of us, yes, that will happen. For others of us, it just won’t. The truth is, we could be gone tomorrow. We could pass away while reading this very blog entry. We just don’t know.

You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears.
– James 4:14

That scripture makes it pretty dang clear, right? We humans get so caught up in priding ourselves on longevity, that we forget what He said. We are but a mist. Here one moment, gone the next.

So should we live depressed, constantly focused on death, and how we are destined to die? Should we forget about doing things for others, or getting close to people, because there’s no sense in it if we’re just gonna die? Heck no!

What I get from James 4:14 is that, yes, I am only a mist in time. I only have but a moment in this world. But, to me, that means I have a lot to do in that moment! Lives to change, people to love, situations to forgive, goals to reach, failures to learn from, people to lead to The Light, and a Savior to love with everything I have.

Instead of living depressed and focused on the upcoming death of our human body, we should live with excitement! With an insatiable motivation to be all we can be while here on this earth. Because although we are only here but a moment, we do leave a mark. So we should make that mark a good one.

Tomorrow isn’t promised, but eternity is.

If you’ve put off getting saved because you think you’ll do it tomorrow..or when you aren’t embroiled in such sin..or when you get done partying..I suggest you stop, and make the change now.

It’s never to early to change, but it can be too late.

When life’s over, the chance to be saved is over. The best time to make that change is right now, this very instant.

If you’ve never been saved, or if you’ve walked away, it’s time to make a change. To make your moment here on earth worth it. Say this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I ask you into my heart today. I know that accepting You into my heart is the only way to Heaven. Today I lay down my own desires and plans, and I instead submit to Your desires and plans. I know Your plans are so much better than my own. Thank you for forgiving my sins, and for accepting me into your family. It’s in your name I pray. Amen.

Have a beautiful day everyone. Live it with joy, and newfound fervor! Life is beautiful, and the part you play in this world is so very important. You matter! Start acting like it!

You are blessed,

Sarah

Stop Running!

20130515-224025.jpg

I don’t know about you, but when I run away from what I need to deal with, I get tired. Something tells me you do, too.

Don’t run from your problems, run to God instead. Running from your problems makes you tired. Running to Jesus brings rest. When we are rested, we are better able to fight the enemy. So, run to God, rest up, and then be ready to stand firm in the face of the enemy. Oh, and prepare for victory, cuz it’s on the way!

Blessings,

Sarah

Stand and See
By Joel & Victoria Osteen

You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:17 NASB)

Do you ever find yourself avoiding a difficult situation? Many people today run when things get hard. They run from their problems. They run from responsibility. They run from people they don’t like. They run from the past. They run from anything that makes them uncomfortable. Instead of facing the issue and dealing with it, they look for the path of least resistance, which isn’t the path to victory. If we are going to embrace all that God has for us, we have to learn how to face our challenges head on.

Notice that today’s verse doesn’t say, “Keep running until you see the salvation of the Lord.” It doesn’t say, “Bury your head in the sand until God delivers you.” It doesn’t say, “Worry all night and try to figure things out until a miracle takes place.” No, God wants us to stand strong, set our faces like a flint, and fight the good fight of faith. And the good news is you don’t have to do it in your own strength! God is on your side. He’s equipped you with His supernatural power to overcome every obstacle.

Today, know that God is with you. He is for you. You are equipped to overcome. Stand strong, stand in faith, knowing that you will see the salvation and deliverance of Almighty God in every area of your life!

Prayer:
Father, I humbly come to You and ask You search my heart. Show me any area in my life that I need to surrender completely to You. Help me to stand strong and see Your salvation in every area of my life! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Music to Your Ears

I wanted to share a video with you today. (I can’t figure out how to embed the video, so I will just put the link in below.) It’s sung by Fernando Ortega, with a reading throughout by Anne Graham Lotz. It is so inspirational, and comforting. Put the rest of life on pause for a few minutes, and allow yourself to really listen to the words she’s speaking, you won’t be sorry! It’s helped me countless times over the years.

I Have to Love Them, Too? Ew.

20130507-084106.jpg

1 Timothy 2:4, 8 MSG

He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free. Eventually the news is going to get out. This and this only has been my appointed work: getting this news to those who have never heard of God, and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth.

Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.

—–

With all of the horrible things going on in this world, I hear a lot of, “They’re gonna burn in hell.” Or, “There’s a special place in hell for monsters like that.”

I used to say the same things frequently..but then I had a revelation. We all deserve hell as our final destination, and there is a “special” place there for all of us.

Just because our sins may seem prettier, or are more socially acceptable, they’re still equally hideous in His sight. But! We believers have hope. Because we are saved by grace. And the non-believers have hope, too, because they can also receive Christ and experience grace.

If we spend all of our time condemning “the sinners”, who’s gonna lead them to Jesus?

If we refuse to have anything to do with “them”, how will they ever see that there is hope, love, and forgiveness for them, too?

Christians need to stop acting as if this is some elite group that only some sinners can be accepted into.

Would the world be different if we reached out to these “monsters” and “horrible sinners” – the rejects of the world – the most hated – and told them that they too can be forgiven? That it’s not too late? That even their sins/crimes can be forgiven? That Jesus came died for them, too? What if we got really crazy and said, “I forgive you.” ?

If there is one thing I know, love and forgiveness change everything. They change everything, because love and forgiveness were being offered at the cross..and they’re still being offered today. They transform sinners into believers. They bring hope to the hopeless.

If we are to be like Christ, then we must also offer love and forgiveness to those who have committed the most heinous of sins/crimes. The only way to do that is by realizing how we have also received the same degree of love and forgiveness.

We cannot continue to place pride on our personal brand of sin, seeing our sin as superior. Our sin is filthy, just like everyone else’s.

Let’s work on trying to heal the world, instead of trying to constantly condemn and put the last nail in the coffin. Jesus wants EVERYONE to be in Heaven with Him. None of us deserve to go, but He was willing to die for us anyway. All of us. So that we could be with Him forever.

People need to know they are wanted, loved, and forgiven. Try to see beyond the sin, and into the heart of the person. There are reasons people have become who they are. There are deep hurts, and scars.

What’s one thing people often say to reporters after someone they know does a horrible thing? They say, “I didn’t see it coming. This isn’t the ….. I knew. He/she always seemed happy. He/she was quiet, and kept to himself/herself.”

This proves, most people never take the time to look beyond the surface of a person. People who feel alone and hurt get desperate. They want to be heard.

Will you be a person today who chooses to look past the outward appearance, and the sins, into the heart of a person? Even if you’ve never met them. You can offer love. A simple smile. A kind hello. A sincere, “How are you?” When you read a news article about yet another horrible thing that’s happened, will you stop and offer up a prayer for that person?

Will you show the unbiased love of God today? No one deserves it, but everyone needs it.

Jesus came to save the sinners. We are all sinners. As it says in The Word, He wants NO ONE to perish, but He wants EVERYONE to enjoy everlasting life.

Love like Jesus loves. 🙂

Blessings to you as we continue on this journey together,

Sarah
