Update and Praise Report :)

20140527-110906.jpg

A year ago today I got news that my brother, Matt, was in the hospital with acute pancreatitis, not the flu as we’d all thought. I remember asking people around me (when I got the text), “What’s pancreatitis, is it bad?” Judging by the look the nurse at the party gave me (😳), I was pretty sure it wasn’t like a common cold. Needless to say, it was the beginning of a humongous faith building journey for all of us. A journey where you get to prove to yourself (and everyone watching) if your faith walk matches your faith talk!

The Lord was so faithful to place the perfect people in my life..to build me up, and keep me focused. People I could text at any time day/night with an “update” and know I’d get back a huge long text of encouragement! People who refused to speak in the negative about the situation, which helped SO MUCH. My “sisters” who made me laugh every Thursday, and always had a hug ready. My husband who determined to stay positive with me, who prayed over me, and never stopped telling me that it would be ok. Blog followers who became invested in carrying us through with prayer and written encouragement. And even a random travel agent I found online for our Disney trip..Turned out she was a sister in The Lord AND had been down the same path with her aunt! I could go on forever..but I won’t. 😉

There’s no way I could thank you all, because the chain expanded so largely that I don’t even know who all was praying! I was getting notes from bloggers all over the world who were lifting him/us up in prayer! I literally felt an army all around us, waging war against the enemy, “storming the gates”. Amazing!

If Matt and Laura ever had a moment of negativity in this process, we never saw it. Their determination to stay positive and joyful, trusting in The Lord and Matt’s amazing team of Doctors was awesome, and encouraging.

Matt’s doing so much better now, and is getting back into the things he loves. It’s great to see him looking so much healthier and being able to EAT! 🙂 We are looking forward to the day when we can say his body is 100% healed! But no matter what twists and turns the journey with his body takes, we know it is well with his soul.

Our family has been through more trials in the last year than I care to even recount. At times it felt a like we were getting smacked with every item flying out of a tornado! I was like, “Really?! We’re gonna go THERE?! What’s next!” But through it all, I’ve felt The Lord (and YOU!) here with me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you – from the bottom of my heart. Your prayers, friendship, and support have meant everything to me and my family. But thank you most of all to The Lord, for giving me more time here on earth with my brother.

James 1:2-5
The Voice (VOICE)
2-4 Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will blossom under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure. And true patience brought on by endurance will equip you to complete the long journey and cross the finish line—mature, complete, and wanting nothing. 5 If you don’t have all the wisdom needed for this journey, then all you have to do is ask God for it; and God will grant all that you need. He gives lavishly and never scolds you for asking.

I keep hearing this song, and I keep loving it.

10 Thousand Reasons
Matt Redman

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

[Chorus x2]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name

I especially love when it says:

Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

So many times in life we get stuff thrown at us that feels like it might destroy us. We aren’t sure how The Lord expects us to get through it. We don’t understand why He’s “allowing” us to suffer. It’s hard to keep our focus on Him when these things happen. And so that line really hits home for me. WHATEVER comes my way, WHATEVER’S down the bend, I want to be SINGING when the evening comes. I don’t want to be found ill equipped or unready for battle. I don’t want to be found with my tools laying at my side. I want to be found singing His glorious praises, spiritual tools in hand!

This life is temporary, friends. The pain will not last forever, it can’t. Because in Heaven there is no pain. There is such an amazing future for the children of God. This earthly life is not the end of your story.

Keep singing His praises! You’re not singing alone, we are all singing with you. Let Heaven hear the choir of His children singing loud for all to hear!

Attitude of Graditude

20130809-163228.jpg

What are you grateful for today? Are you in a place, spiritually, where you are able to praise Him regardless of circumstance?

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1

Man, it can be so hard to stay in an attitude of praise when everything seems to be tumbling down around us. But, as I’ve said before, praise confuses the enemy, friends! And not only that, but praising also keeps our focus where it belongs..on Victory..on Him!

No matter what’s going on around you today, or how the storm rages, be grateful for Him and praise His holy name. Because He is good! And His mercies endureth forever, and ever. Amen!

Decide to make it an amazing weekend! Every day is a blessing, don’t forget it.

Onward and upward, Christian soldiers!

You are blessed,

– Sarah

It’s Okay to Have FUN!

20130603-085327.jpg

Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day junk and gunk that we forget to enjoy life. As we kick off another week, let’s all make a conscious effort to laugh more, to allow more fun in the routine. I’m pretty sure we will notice our weeks going a lot more smoothly!

On a side note, for those of you who’ve been praying with us, Matt was released from the hospital yesterday! Prayers are still, of course, appreciated for a full and speedy recovery. But he is doing much better. Yay! God is, as usual, GOOD!

Have a fun filled day!

Blessings,

Sarah

Today’s devo selection:

Finding the Fun
By Joyce Meyer

Want to hear a funny story? I’ve got a lot of them, and they come from things that happened in my ordinary, everyday life. Now, I wasn’t laughing when those stories were in the making, but I’m glad I can laugh about them now.

For example, I didn’t think it was funny when I couldn’t get my hair to stay in place, but if you’d seen what I did about it, you certainly would have laughed. It wasn’t amusing when I tried to make clothes, especially for the people who had to wear them. And I was so irritated when Dave threw paper towels over the grocery store aisle at me, but I realize now, he just knew how to have a little fun no matter what he was doing. I’m glad I’ve learned to look at times like these and see the humor in them.

Now I know that not everything in life is necessarily enjoyable, but I think we all need to learn to have more fun in our lives. And I bet if you took time to think about it every day, you could find a moment that brought you joy or you can laugh about now.

God wants His children to have some fun. The Bible says a merry heart does good like medicine. I think we all need a healthy dose of laughter every day – many times during the day. You just can’t overdose on joy!

I encourage you to deliberately look for something to smile or laugh about every day, and be sure to share a smile or a laugh with someone else and brighten their day too!

Prayer Starter: Lord, Your Word says that a cheerful heart is like good medicine. Thank You for helping me to find the joy and fun in life!

Scripture: A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. (Proverbs 17:22 NKJV)

Graduation! And a Matt Update!

20130530-225815.jpg

Well tomorrow, our baby girl graduates from high school. She’s graduating a year early! So proud of her. It’s funny how time flies. One minute you’re wishing that baby would start talking so you can know what they want. The next minute you’re helping them try on their cap and gown.

She’s an amazing girl with a heart of gold. Her future plans consist of earning her major in Sociology and her minor in Multi Ethnic Studies. Then, she can get on to what she really wants to do…mission work, and writing that goes hand in hand with that mission work.

I’m so blessed, and in awe, that The Lord entrusted us with this beautiful miracle. It blows me away.

In other news, Matt is still in the hospital, and will be (reportedly) through the weekend. Please continue to lift him up in prayer. I hope to be able to see him tomorrow morning. I want to take Ash in to see him while she’s wearing her cap and gown so he can see her, since he won’t be able to attend the graduation. If I make it through that without having to be admitted myself for an emotional breakdown, it will be a miracle! 😉

One thing I know for sure is that God is GOOD, and worthy to be praised! In the good times, in the bad times, in the in between times. Praising confuses the enemy! So praise Him in advance, friends! Your breakthrough is on the way!

Scripture:
Now to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us, to Him be all glory in the church and in Jesus the Anointed from this generation to the next, forever and ever. Amen.

God is Doing a New Thing: Are You Looking?

By Chris Roberts

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert… (Isaiah 43:18-19)

Our Lord does not bind himself to the expectations of men or to the habits of time. Behold, he is doing a new thing! He is not held by the thickening mud of human tradition, he makes a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, peace among the wild beasts and sweet water to the people formed for his praise.

The prophet asks, almost incredulously, “Can’t you perceive this thing that he is doing?” Are you so blinded by your set ways that you cannot see the path God lays right before your eyes? Thus it was for the Pharisees, those blind guides who led people into darkness. So hard of heart, they refused to see salvation coming out of Zion, the Holy One of Israel, come to take away the sins of the world. They remained locked in patterns of works and self-righteousness while declaring their own praise. But the God who makes a way in the wilderness, a river in the desert, has brought something new: salvation through the suffering servant.

Do not be like the Pharisee, so consumed with his vision of himself that he was unable to perceive the mighty work of God. Be like the prophet himself, Isaiah, who saw the Lord seated on the throne and could only tremble as the angels cried out, “Holy, holy holy, is the Lord of hosts! The whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:1-6) God has done this great work so that the people would declare his praise (Isaiah 43:21). Christian, give praise to God!

Always on the Run!

20130315-001240.jpg

It’s been a crazy week, and it doesn’t look to be letting up anytime soon. I’m sure many of you can relate! But even in the crazy times, we can take a moment to pause and refocus our eyes on Him. Because with and in Him all things are possible. We can do anything with Him by our side. So as I get ready to run around like a chicken with my head cut off today, I’m gonna do it with a smile, knowing that I’m not doing any of it by myself. I have my Savior with me! I encourage you to do the same. I think if you do, you’ll notice you don’t mind fulfilling those pesky obligations nearly as much. 🙂

Blessings,

Sarah

Are You Too Busy For God?
By Emily Riley

Most people know the importance of spending time with God. But in the midst of life, sometimes it’s just hard to find the time. Schedules fill up quickly, work consumes our thoughts at night, family and friends vie for our attention, and then there’s this thing called sleep. How do you fit it all in? What do you let “drop”? What do you do when you simply need 36 hours in a day instead of 24?

There can be many reasons and causes for our busy lives. But, no matter the season, no matter the busy schedule we have, God demands our worship. The sisters, Mary and Martha are a good example of this. Its easy for me to relate to Martha… busy with serving… busy with something good, but missing what was most important.

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are) anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42)

I want to grow in that faith that Mary had… faith to rest and not be anxious. The wisdom to see what is most important. Faith to trust in God to provide and to be able to simply rest there.

Prayer: Father, Help us to look to you, no matter how busy our lives may be. Be our number one priority and help us to in faith, trust you to provide the needed strength for the other events of our day. You are all powerful and you care for us. Help that truth to increase our faith and trust in you. Forgive us for where we are anxious. Thank you for the reminder that if you care for the needs of the birds of the air, you care for us.
