What the &@$%!!

20130718-154033.jpg

Sometimes even I can’t believe the words that come from my mouth. I’ve been known to say, “Wow, I offended myself with that one.” I’ve always been a much better writer than a speaker, as far as speaking of Christ. Most would say it’s because with writing you have time to think. But that’s not the case for me. If I’m writing, I’m usually NOT thinking..it’s just my feelings overflowing onto paper. Granted, there is the wonderful “DELETE” button available! 😉

Anyway, one of my biggest mouth issues is swearing. I swear like a trucker at times, not around my kids of course, actually I only swear around those I know also swear as not to be offensive to those who dont. I can’t say that I feel bad when I do, or feel that I’ve done wrong. I don’t. I’ve long felt that its a great way of expressing one’s feelings. I know, many of you are like uhhh, Sarah, you’re whacked out of your mind. Swearing shows ignorance. But, I’m not trying to justify my swearing, I’m just sharing with you my feelings on it. Now, there are times I hear people swearing and it offends me. There are movies I will turn off due to swearing. I think just like anything, context and tone of voice greatly affect the words spoken.

Guard your tongue from profanity, and no more lying through your teeth. (Psalm 34:13 MSG)

Looking at that scripture, I have to wonder…what exactly is profanity? I don’t think it’s just swearing. So I just did a Dictionary.com search. It says that profanity is a vulgar or irreverent action or speech. Ok, so then swearing isn’t the only profanity that could be demonstrated by a person..far from it.

That being said, how one interprets another’s words or actions is also important.

And if someone walking by hears me swearing, and also just happens to see the cross on my neck, and also just happens to feel that swearing in itself is vulgar..then I can’t say, in good conscience, that my words were harmless. So, although I may not see MY swearing as vulgar, it becomes vulgar because of their interpretation, and as a result, reflects poorly on my Savior. I would never want that. I want to be a shining example of Him.

Soooo…I’ve decided that I will stop swearing. Not out of guilt or shame, but because I would never want to misrepresent my Jesus. I want to do and say things that bring Him glory and honor. So, here I go..embarking on a new journey of growth. 🙂

What habit(s) do you have that you need to let go of?

Blessings,

Sarah

Is The Path You’ve Chosen Killing You?

20130702-124204.jpg

It’s not too late to start again. You get to choose the road you take, and you get to choose how long you stay on that path. If you’re finding yourself on the wrong path today, I encourage you to STOP, change direction, and start journeying down the right path. In reading The Word, you will find much encouragement and direction for your journey. You’re not in this alone. There are brighter days ahead!

Take a minute or two and read Psalm 103, I think you will find it very helpful. 🙂

My prayers are with you on this journey to growth!

You are blessed,

Sarah

Today’s devo selection:

A NEW ROUTE
By: Joel Osteen

I know people who feel like they’ve wasted years of their lives because of poor choices. They spent years in a relationship that was toxic, years with an addiction, years at a job where they weren’t fulfilled. But you have to realize, nothing you have been through is ever wasted. Your past experiences, good and bad have deposited something on the inside of you. Those challenges have sharpened you to help make you who you are today.

When the enemy brings hardship into your life, God has a way of taking that experience and turning it around for your advantage. You may think you’ve hit a dead end, but if you’ll stay in faith, you will see God begin to open up a new route. He’ll put the right people in your path, the right opportunities, the right circumstances to move you forward toward your God-given destiny.

Today, don’t focus on what’s happened in your past, focus on what God will do in your future. He wants to restore your soul and revive your dreams. Keep believing, keep expecting, keep hoping because God has a new route for your future!

Prayer:
Father God, I come humbly before You today. I give You my past, present and future knowing that You will redeem my life. I release those who have hurt me, I choose forgiveness so I can be free to move forward in the new route You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture:
He forgives your sins—every one. He heals your diseases—every one. He redeems you from hell—saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal. He renews your youth—you’re always young in his presence. (Psalm 103:3-5 MSG)

Reeeellllllaaaaaaaaxxxxxx already! (Note to Self)

It’s time to stop, relax, and look up! He’s right there, ready to calm your soul in the midst of the storm. Trust in Him to do so. He won’t let you down! But, there’s a catch…you have to let go of the stress in order to receive His peace. Are you willing?

Have a great weekend!

Love and blessings,

Sarah

Relax!
by George Whitten, Editor of Worthy Devotions

Matthew 8:26-27 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Whew! What must the disciples have felt back then as they saw the waves crashing against their boat? They we’re being swayed from side to side in the deep dark sea. They were afraid for their lives! But our Lord was there all along. He just wanted them to trust.

So often we find ourselves in that same boat, don’t we? “Lord, are you there?! Don’t you see these waves about to consume me?!

But He does! He sees all, hears all, knows all. He is the same Lord that calmed that storm two thousand years ago and He can cause the winds and the seas, and the trials of our lives to become calm in an instant! Ahh, but it’s usually in the storms that He will display His awesome power!

Let’s renew our trust in the Lord today. God has great plans for those who will put their trust in Him.

This Girl is on Fire

May we all be on fire with our commitment to Him today as we continue on our journeys!

Make it a beautiful day!

Half Hearted Commitment
By Greg Laurie

” ‘I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, I will spit you out of my mouth!’ ”
— Revelation 3:15-16
Milk is great cold. There’s nothing quite like a cold glass of milk with some cookies. Milk is also good hot. With a little chocolate syrup, it’s great. But lukewarm milk? The thought of it is sickening. It just doesn’t cut it.

In Revelation 3, Jesus spoke of lukewarm individuals. He said, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other!” (verse 15). It’s interesting that Jesus said He would prefer either hot or cold. You would think He would have said, “I would rather you be hot. But if lukewarm is all I can get, it’s better than nothing.”

You would think that lukewarm would be more acceptable to Him, because it is somewhat close to hot. But Jesus was saying, “I don’t want lukewarm. I don’t want half-hearted commitments. I want you to decide. I want you in or I would rather you were out.”

Here’s why. If you’re hot, you’re in. If you’re on fire, if you’re walking with God, then you’re where God wants you to be. But if you’re cold, hopefully you will at least realize you’re cold and one day realize your need for Christ and come to Him.

But the lukewarm person is in the worst state of all because he is self-deceived. The lukewarm person says, “I go to church. I read the Bible sometimes. I kind of believe in God—when it’s convenient.” That is the worst state of all. What is your spiritual temperature today?
