20130823-130800.jpg

The devil wants you to give up. Will you?

You are faced with a choice today. You can either pick up the tools of the Kingdom, or the tools of the enemy. What are these tools? Well, here are a few..

Kingdom tools:

Hope
Perseverance
Joy
Determination
Faith
Love

Enemy tools:

Cynicism
Faithlessness
Hate
Anger
Fear
Doubt

The tools you choose to pick up determine your situation’s outcome. The good news is, if you’ve picked up the wrong tool, it’s not to late to drop it like its hot, and pick up a Kingdom tool!

You were born for greatness – destined for victory! Give God the glory today by picking up Kingdom tools.

Focusing on the Right Things
By Lisa Buffaloe

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

Several months ago, I walked across a parking lot and focused on the door where I would be doing business. A few moments later, I found myself sprawled on the sidewalk. Fortunately, my nose broke the fall. Unfortunately, said appendage sustained damage and still has a slight tilt to the left.

Amazing how a fall shifts the viewpoint. Who knew there was actually a curb?

When trials come there is a zeroing in on the things we hold dear. Immediately, the path warrants our attention opposed to the surroundings. Life’s difficulties readjust our focus.

Whether I live ten more days or fifty more years, I want to experience life to the fullest. God has walked me through the fires, through the raging waters, and never left my side. I may come out dripping wet or charred and smokin’ but I have found more of Him. I pray for health (and good eyesight), but more than that I pray and beg for more of Him.

God is faithful. He is big enough to handle whatever you face today, and whatever comes your way tomorrow. There is no illness, no diagnosis, no heartache, and no problem too big for God. The same God who created the universe, set the planets in motion, and placed the stars in the sky, is the God who knows the numbers of hairs on your head.

No detail is too small, nothing in your life is overlooked, and nothing is impossible for God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father regardless of the difficulties of life, help me to stay focused on You. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You and not my difficulties. Thank you that You are over all things and always in control.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.

20130620-104936.jpg

None of us knows when our days here on earth will end.

So many of us just assume we will experience the whole “Sitting on the rocking chair on the front porch, watching the grand kids play while we sip on iced tea” moment.

For some of us, yes, that will happen. For others of us, it just won’t. The truth is, we could be gone tomorrow. We could pass away while reading this very blog entry. We just don’t know.

You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears.
– James 4:14

That scripture makes it pretty dang clear, right? We humans get so caught up in priding ourselves on longevity, that we forget what He said. We are but a mist. Here one moment, gone the next.

So should we live depressed, constantly focused on death, and how we are destined to die? Should we forget about doing things for others, or getting close to people, because there’s no sense in it if we’re just gonna die? Heck no!

What I get from James 4:14 is that, yes, I am only a mist in time. I only have but a moment in this world. But, to me, that means I have a lot to do in that moment! Lives to change, people to love, situations to forgive, goals to reach, failures to learn from, people to lead to The Light, and a Savior to love with everything I have.

Instead of living depressed and focused on the upcoming death of our human body, we should live with excitement! With an insatiable motivation to be all we can be while here on this earth. Because although we are only here but a moment, we do leave a mark. So we should make that mark a good one.

Tomorrow isn’t promised, but eternity is.

If you’ve put off getting saved because you think you’ll do it tomorrow..or when you aren’t embroiled in such sin..or when you get done partying..I suggest you stop, and make the change now.

It’s never to early to change, but it can be too late.

When life’s over, the chance to be saved is over. The best time to make that change is right now, this very instant.

If you’ve never been saved, or if you’ve walked away, it’s time to make a change. To make your moment here on earth worth it. Say this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I ask you into my heart today. I know that accepting You into my heart is the only way to Heaven. Today I lay down my own desires and plans, and I instead submit to Your desires and plans. I know Your plans are so much better than my own. Thank you for forgiving my sins, and for accepting me into your family. It’s in your name I pray. Amen.

Have a beautiful day everyone. Live it with joy, and newfound fervor! Life is beautiful, and the part you play in this world is so very important. You matter! Start acting like it!

You are blessed,

Sarah

Sluggards are Annoying. And I’m One of Them.

20130603-225929.jpg

Sometimes we want more for others than they want for themselves. And that’s pretty frustrating. Right? Right.

We are currently trying to “help” our daughter break into the working world. She filled out a whopping 2 applications today. I remember filling out 20+ apps in one day when I was job hunting! To me, filling out 2 applications (after being forced to) doesn’t scream, “I want a job!” She, on the other hand, feels she’s really outdone herself.

20130603-230055.jpg

I think The Lord can identify with my feelings. He knows the level at which we can succeed, if we fully apply ourselves instead of doubting or being lazy. He knows what He did in order to fulfill His calling, and our “works” pale in comparison. It might be hard for Him to sit back and watch us wander when He has told us exactly how to succeed.

But here’s the difference between Him and me.

He lovingly waits for me. He guides me, patiently. Whereas I, in my human nature, start visualizing duct taping her hand to the pen, and forcing her to fill out every application she can get her hands on. My grace walk fails when compared to His. Big surprise!

A scripture comes to mind..

Proverbs 13:4
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Another one comes to mind..

Psalm 86:15
But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

I will be meditating on these scriptures today..trying to be less like the sluggard in my own life, and more like Him when presented with other sluggards. 🙂

Have a beautiful day everyone! Get out there and accomplish something you’ve been putting off!

Blessings,

Sarah

Count it All Joy!

20130523-231125.jpg

Sometimes it takes a whole lot of determination to embrace new seasons in life. I do ok for a bit and then, BAM, find myself in tears. Oops! Refocus, Sarah!

The enemy is always on the prowl, looking for an open door, window, or crack in the foundation. I find, for myself, that if I notice the enemy creeping in, I have to quickly push him out and seal up the area he slithered into. Then I have to get back to praising! If I don’t, I only find myself in worse shape.

The Word says we are to count it all joy when we are tried and tested, for the trying of our faith will work patience in our souls.

I realize tears are ok. They cleanse us! And as one my fellow bloggers wrote (I’m paraphrasing), “It’s ok to cry, Jesus cried!” It’s not the crying that’s the problem, it’s the reason behind it that may be the problem. Are we crying and wallowing in self pity for that which we’ve lost? Or, are we shedding tears while acknowledging the feelings associated with the situation, but choosing to consider the trial a joy – Knowing that the fruit of overcoming these trials will far outweigh any temporary sadness.

The Lord turns everything for the good of those who love Him. So we can be confident that there is no trial or season that we go through where He won’t find a way to bring good out of it. And, remember, you’re not in this thing alone, ask Him for help!

No matter what comes my way, I’m going to continue to count it all joy. Because, at the end of my days, I want to be able to say I enjoyed life, even when it wasn’t easy. That I chose to see the best in every situation, and trust in His faithfulness.

Don’t give up, friends. Victory is around the corner. Keep on keepin on!

James 1:2-8
New King James Version (NKJV)
Profiting from Trials

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

I’m a Coffee Bean by Choice

20130522-222926.jpg

Obstacles. Problems. Barriers. Hard choices. Life is full of them.

I want to encourage you today to turn the problems facing you into opportunities for victory. It’s a simple lesson in perspective. A choice. Yes: I will pursue victory. Or, No: I will let this problem overtake me.

It is my hope that when you’re presented with these choices, you will choose to say, “Yes! I will pursue victory! I will make the best of this situation!”

Enjoy today’s devotional story (below), I found it very inspiring!

Blessings,

Sarah

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

The Carrot, the Egg, and the Coffee Bean
By: Anonymous

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling.

It seemed that, as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans.

She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about twenty minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me, what do you see?”

“Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” the young woman replied. The mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – boiling water – but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened! The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” the mother asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?” Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong but, with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit but, after a death, a breakup, or a financial hardship, does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavour.

If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

A Case of the Mondays

20130513-074802.jpg

Good morning! If you’re like me, the alarm clock went off way too early this morning! *yawn* Mondays always seem to come too soon.

So here is some encouragement to start your day. Make it a good one!

Blessings,

Sarah

Discouragement- Satan wants you to think you can’t change, and that it is impossible for you to let go of old mindsets and habits. Don’t believe him for a minute! Put your confidence in God and His Word. Believe what He has said about you, and know that when the knowledge of God’s Word is on the inside of you, you will be equipped to make decisions that keep you on the path to change.

When God calls you & puts that vision into your life, you must become DETERMINED that no matter what any one tells you; no matter what any demon of hell might say or do to you, you are going to keep walking through that valley holding on to the UNSHAKEABLE, ALL POWERFUL hand of God & you will experience complete victory. It doesn’t matter what man might say or what hell may say. It only matters what God is saying.
~Living Waters

Today you may not complete everything you set out to do; you may not finish every task on your list, but do not be discouraged. Thank God for the ability and grace that allowed you to conquer the things that you did! Take time and celebrate that in spite of all the obstacles placed in your way you woke up this morning and set out to accomplish something!
~TD Jakes

Today I pray for your relationships—that God would restore lost opportunities to you and the years and moments that have been stolen. I pray that He strengthens your connections with the people in your life and gives you creative ways to show your love. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
