The devo I’m sharing with you today started out by making me laugh, and ended up making me feel like I had been wrapped up in a nice warm blanket. Enjoy!

Focusing on the Right Things
By Lisa Buffaloe

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:3-5)

Several months ago, I walked across a parking lot and focused on the door where I would be doing business. A few moments later, I found myself sprawled on the sidewalk. Fortunately, my nose broke the fall. Unfortunately, said appendage sustained damage and still has a slight tilt to the left.

Amazing how a fall shifts the viewpoint. Who knew there was actually a curb?

When trials come there is a zeroing in on the things we hold dear. Immediately, the path warrants our attention opposed to the surroundings. Life’s difficulties readjust our focus.

Whether I live ten more days or fifty more years, I want to experience life to the fullest. God has walked me through the fires, through the raging waters, and never left my side. I may come out dripping wet or charred and smokin’ but I have found more of Him. I pray for health (and good eyesight), but more than that I pray and beg for more of Him.

God is faithful. He is big enough to handle whatever you face today, and whatever comes your way tomorrow. There is no illness, no diagnosis, no heartache, and no problem too big for God. The same God who created the universe, set the planets in motion, and placed the stars in the sky, is the God who knows the numbers of hairs on your head.

No detail is too small, nothing in your life is overlooked, and nothing is impossible for God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father regardless of the difficulties of life, help me to stay focused on You. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You and not my difficulties. Thank you that You are over all things and always in control.

Tired but Soaring

I found this devotional so comforting, especially right now. I’m tired. Physically and emotionally. But my spirit is soaring. And that’s because I know that I’m not alone. That no matter what the world brings, as long as I’m with Him, I will soar on wings like eagles.

Do you know that? That you’re never alone? That He’s always there with you? Ready to hold you through the night? He is. Always.

You are blessed,

Sarah

Are You Tired Lately?
By Tiffany @ www.teawithtiffany.com/

I’ve noticed a disturbing trend recently.

Everyone I talk to is tired. Tired of daily stress. Tired of busyness. Tired of summer heat. Tired of financial or health problems. Tired of praying. Tired of their loved ones. And tired of even trying.

Last week, my college-aged son and his two friends were in a ugly car wreck. Their lives were spared by only a second or two. Wow, as a mom that was hard to see. Thank God, they are not hurt. Anyway as I stood nearby the accident, one of the moms said, “I’m just so tired,” And as tears fell from her eyes, she repeated, “I’m just so tired.”

I understand because I’m tired too.

Lately I’ve thought things like, why bother and who cares. I’ve even considered about giving up on my dreams and running away from my responsibilities. You name it, I’ve thought it. I know this isn’t faith-filled thinking. More like destruction waiting to happen.

So how can we keep the faith when we are beyond tired, when weariness hits hard?

I think I found a clue as I reread a chapter in Isaiah. It’s chapter 4o, which is subtitled, “Comfort for God’s People.”

Who doesn’t need a little more comfort these days?

I know I do.

I won’t post the whole chapter here, but I will share the last several verses for your encouragement.

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Did you notice our God never grows tired or weary?

What comfort.

These verses also remind me that I cannot find new strength on my own or in anything. But I can renew my strength by hoping again. And not just any hope, but hope in the Lord. What a relief because hoping in Tiffany isn’t working.

Feeling hopeless is dangerous territory.

So today I’m focused on hope again.

Everlasting God, I’m comforted by reading that You never tire or grow weary. Please renew my strength as I once again place my hope in You. In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Thankful and feeling a little less tired,

God’s Love Fills Gaps and Gives Hope
by Harvey L. Diamond

God is love. His love is perfect. Human love on the other hand is imperfect and leaves gaps. Orphans know that. For whatever reason, they have been abandoned by their parents. The bond of love between parent and child has been broken. Automatically there is a love gap. God sacrificed His Son to fill in every human gap. That’s a picture of His love. He leaves no prisoners to the bondage of abandonment. He is always there. ”I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:18). Where do you need a touch of God’s love?

RELEVANCE
When I was 7 my mother died. A bond of love had been broken. Something was missing for a long time, but I didn’t know what. At 19 the LORD demonstrated in a real way that He had been there in a way I never knew. Coming to the knowledge of His love brought a measure of peace. He revealed a way of access to His grace in a way I had never imagined. His faithfulness captured my heart, and in faith, I became a believer. It brought a new kind of hope I thought didn’t exist. I re-connected to life; His life!

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:1-5).

REFLECT AND RELATE
What gap exists in your heart? Let the LORD fill it with His love; a kind of love that brings peace and hope. Ask Him to demonstrate the reality of His love. Ask Him to reveal how He is there—now—with you.

Music to Your Ears

I wanted to share a video with you today. (I can’t figure out how to embed the video, so I will just put the link in below.) It’s sung by Fernando Ortega, with a reading throughout by Anne Graham Lotz. It is so inspirational, and comforting. Put the rest of life on pause for a few minutes, and allow yourself to really listen to the words she’s speaking, you won’t be sorry! It’s helped me countless times over the years.

Quality Time

20130312-080716.jpg

There’s no one who loves you more than the Lord does, and He would just love to spend some quality time with you. Rest in His love today, share your thoughts/hurts/hopes/dreams/failures/triumphs with Him. He wants all of you, will you let Him in?

Blessings,

Sarah

QUALITY TIME
Devo found at: http://www.haventoday.org

“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.”
(DEUTERONOMY 33:12)

In our busy lives what a treat it is to spend time with someone we know loves to be with us, one whose friendship we treasure as well. For many who have experienced rejection, to believe another truly loves and values us is a huge challenge. It requires letting down the defenses we have used to protect ourselves from more hurt. Our experience in human relationships affects our ability to accept God’s love.

If the Apostle John had experienced rejection, he overcame it completely because he knew without a doubt that Jesus loved him. He had no problem describing himself as the disciple Jesus loved. Their friendship was secure in God’s grace. Jesus trusted John with the care of Mary, His mother (John 19:26, 27), and John’s greatest desire was that others would know the One he loved (John 20:31).

The overarching aim of our whole New Year should be to know God and Jesus Christ whom He sent. Jesus invites us to come to Him and to be refreshed in His presence. We can enjoy being with Him knowing we are loved.

You Are Loved Today

Image
Good morning!
Valentine’s Day brings tremendous joy for some, but tremendous sadness for others. For those of you that feel sadness today, I want to encourage you.  I want you to know that no matter your relationship status or situation, the Lord is your ultimate Valentine. He doesn’t forget things that are important to you, He never forgets to show up, never forgets to give you gifts, and He always wants a second date. He never ever says He wants to “just be friends”. He is always there for you, would travel to the ends of the earth to find you should you wander, and His love for you is everlasting. What a catch! You are blessed with the ultimate love this Valentines day. So, go ahead, let that smile start to form, put a skip in your step! Enjoy this day to the fullest, knowing that you are the apple of His eye..the King of Kings wants YOU!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today’s Devo:
God’s Box of Chocolates–A Valentine’s Day Devotional
by LauraLee Shaw
Everywhere I look near Valentine’s Day, there’s chocolate: boxes of chocolate in all the stores, chocolate on tv promising to be the only love you need, chocolate girl scout cookies–CHOCOLATE! I even saw chocolate Altoid breath mints in the grocery checkout aisle the other day! I think that’s what led me to remember the famous quote from Forrest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get.” (I even remembered it with his accent.)
In reality, that phrase can be true in many ways. We wake up every morning completely unsure of what the day may hold for us. We’ve made our plans. Sometimes they even happen the way we make them. But we never know for sure, do we?
The days that come with caramel in the middle are my favorite. The ones with the strawberry goo are just so so–but the ones with coconut–YUCK! I’d rather go back to bed. Then there’s the days where tragedy or difficult times come out of nowhere, and the chocolate sits in the pantry untouched…there’s no sweetness to be had in those moments, it seems.
God knows that life as it pertains to circumstances is uncertain for us. That’s why He comforts us and reminds us so many times that He is our constant companion, our steadfast friend, our consistently loving God and Savior. He doesn’t keep promises the way we do:
“When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they’ll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee His promises, He gave His word, a rock-solid guarantee–God can’t break His word. And because His word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.” (Heb. 6:16-18, the Message)
You see, no matter what chocolate we are “in the middle of” right now, He is there–with the certainty of His promise today as well as His hope of heaven in the future. Listen to how the verse above continues to encourage us: (vs.19-20)
“We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up His permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.”
I love the visual picture of grabbing on to Him with both hands as He runs ahead of me to the Father. That makes me able to get up today and praise Him for whatever comes my way. This faith, this confidence, this hope is our unbreakable spiritual lifeline–HIS love for us no matter what, when, how or why. Let’s binge on His priceless box of chocolates today…the sweetest and most satisfying of them all.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.”
