You Before Me

Oh man, am I ever behind on reading all of your blog posts! I will set aside time tomorrow to catch up. I miss you guys! The last few weeks have been very busy with getting ready for school, and school starting. But this week I’m expecting to settle into the groove again.

Yesterday was our 18th wedding anniversary! We spent the day with the kids, went for pizza, and back to the place where it all started. We had our daughter take a picture of us, standing in the same place we did all those years ago and said, “I do!” Here’s the picture..

20130902-205202.jpg

We always talk about how we don’t feel like it’s already been 18 years (20 years if you count dating!), and how we can’t wait for the next 18. But, that doesn’t mean it’s been all peaches and cream, folks! We have definitely had our shares of ups and downs, and times when “goodbye” had sadly become an option. But, The Lord is good, and stayed ever faithful to work with us, and meet us where we were at. Without him, we would’ve been another statistic.

If your relationship is in a tough spot right now, I want to encourage you to remember the first days together, and get back to the puppy love stage. Seek The Lord in all you do..every response you give to your partner, every action you take towards your partner. It took us a long while to really put each other first (after The Lord) and focus on each others needs above our own. But once we did, things started changing fast.

Like Dr. Laura says, be your husband’s girlfriend..and husbands, be your wife’s boyfriend. It really makes a difference, friends!

Don’t give up hope, the change begins with you.

——

Philippians 2:1-11
Good News Translation (GNT)

Christ’s Humility and Greatness

1 Your life in Christ makes you strong, and his love comforts you. You have fellowship with the Spirit,[a] and you have kindness and compassion for one another. 2 I urge you, then, to make me completely happy by having the same thoughts, sharing the same love, and being one in soul and mind. 3 Don’t do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves. 4 And look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own. 5 The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had:

6 He always had the nature of God,
but he did not think that by force he should try to remain[b] equal with God.
7 Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had,
and took the nature of a servant.
He became like a human being
and appeared in human likeness.
8 He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death—
his death on the cross.
9 For this reason God raised him to the highest place above
and gave him the name that is greater than any other name.
10 And so, in honor of the name of Jesus
all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below[c]
will fall on their knees,
11 and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Until next time,

Is The Path You’ve Chosen Killing You?

20130702-124204.jpg

It’s not too late to start again. You get to choose the road you take, and you get to choose how long you stay on that path. If you’re finding yourself on the wrong path today, I encourage you to STOP, change direction, and start journeying down the right path. In reading The Word, you will find much encouragement and direction for your journey. You’re not in this alone. There are brighter days ahead!

Take a minute or two and read Psalm 103, I think you will find it very helpful. 🙂

My prayers are with you on this journey to growth!

You are blessed,

Sarah

Today’s devo selection:

A NEW ROUTE
By: Joel Osteen

I know people who feel like they’ve wasted years of their lives because of poor choices. They spent years in a relationship that was toxic, years with an addiction, years at a job where they weren’t fulfilled. But you have to realize, nothing you have been through is ever wasted. Your past experiences, good and bad have deposited something on the inside of you. Those challenges have sharpened you to help make you who you are today.

When the enemy brings hardship into your life, God has a way of taking that experience and turning it around for your advantage. You may think you’ve hit a dead end, but if you’ll stay in faith, you will see God begin to open up a new route. He’ll put the right people in your path, the right opportunities, the right circumstances to move you forward toward your God-given destiny.

Today, don’t focus on what’s happened in your past, focus on what God will do in your future. He wants to restore your soul and revive your dreams. Keep believing, keep expecting, keep hoping because God has a new route for your future!

Prayer:
Father God, I come humbly before You today. I give You my past, present and future knowing that You will redeem my life. I release those who have hurt me, I choose forgiveness so I can be free to move forward in the new route You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture:
He forgives your sins—every one. He heals your diseases—every one. He redeems you from hell—saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal. He renews your youth—you’re always young in his presence. (Psalm 103:3-5 MSG)

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.

20130620-104936.jpg

None of us knows when our days here on earth will end.

So many of us just assume we will experience the whole “Sitting on the rocking chair on the front porch, watching the grand kids play while we sip on iced tea” moment.

For some of us, yes, that will happen. For others of us, it just won’t. The truth is, we could be gone tomorrow. We could pass away while reading this very blog entry. We just don’t know.

You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears.
– James 4:14

That scripture makes it pretty dang clear, right? We humans get so caught up in priding ourselves on longevity, that we forget what He said. We are but a mist. Here one moment, gone the next.

So should we live depressed, constantly focused on death, and how we are destined to die? Should we forget about doing things for others, or getting close to people, because there’s no sense in it if we’re just gonna die? Heck no!

What I get from James 4:14 is that, yes, I am only a mist in time. I only have but a moment in this world. But, to me, that means I have a lot to do in that moment! Lives to change, people to love, situations to forgive, goals to reach, failures to learn from, people to lead to The Light, and a Savior to love with everything I have.

Instead of living depressed and focused on the upcoming death of our human body, we should live with excitement! With an insatiable motivation to be all we can be while here on this earth. Because although we are only here but a moment, we do leave a mark. So we should make that mark a good one.

Tomorrow isn’t promised, but eternity is.

If you’ve put off getting saved because you think you’ll do it tomorrow..or when you aren’t embroiled in such sin..or when you get done partying..I suggest you stop, and make the change now.

It’s never to early to change, but it can be too late.

When life’s over, the chance to be saved is over. The best time to make that change is right now, this very instant.

If you’ve never been saved, or if you’ve walked away, it’s time to make a change. To make your moment here on earth worth it. Say this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I ask you into my heart today. I know that accepting You into my heart is the only way to Heaven. Today I lay down my own desires and plans, and I instead submit to Your desires and plans. I know Your plans are so much better than my own. Thank you for forgiving my sins, and for accepting me into your family. It’s in your name I pray. Amen.

Have a beautiful day everyone. Live it with joy, and newfound fervor! Life is beautiful, and the part you play in this world is so very important. You matter! Start acting like it!

You are blessed,

Sarah

Count it All Joy!

20130523-231125.jpg

Sometimes it takes a whole lot of determination to embrace new seasons in life. I do ok for a bit and then, BAM, find myself in tears. Oops! Refocus, Sarah!

The enemy is always on the prowl, looking for an open door, window, or crack in the foundation. I find, for myself, that if I notice the enemy creeping in, I have to quickly push him out and seal up the area he slithered into. Then I have to get back to praising! If I don’t, I only find myself in worse shape.

The Word says we are to count it all joy when we are tried and tested, for the trying of our faith will work patience in our souls.

I realize tears are ok. They cleanse us! And as one my fellow bloggers wrote (I’m paraphrasing), “It’s ok to cry, Jesus cried!” It’s not the crying that’s the problem, it’s the reason behind it that may be the problem. Are we crying and wallowing in self pity for that which we’ve lost? Or, are we shedding tears while acknowledging the feelings associated with the situation, but choosing to consider the trial a joy – Knowing that the fruit of overcoming these trials will far outweigh any temporary sadness.

The Lord turns everything for the good of those who love Him. So we can be confident that there is no trial or season that we go through where He won’t find a way to bring good out of it. And, remember, you’re not in this thing alone, ask Him for help!

No matter what comes my way, I’m going to continue to count it all joy. Because, at the end of my days, I want to be able to say I enjoyed life, even when it wasn’t easy. That I chose to see the best in every situation, and trust in His faithfulness.

Don’t give up, friends. Victory is around the corner. Keep on keepin on!

James 1:2-8
New King James Version (NKJV)
Profiting from Trials

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Embracing the Seasons

20130425-234053.jpg

Sometimes I go to my old blog for inspiration, or a good laugh, or to see how far I’ve come/regressed.. I was there tonight and found a few I’d written that I want to share with you. So here is the first one! Have a great day.

It’s a rainy day here in Kuna. But it’s a rainy day in SPRING, so I’m ok with it 🙂 The trees are starting to bud. There are a few flowers showing their beautiful smiles. The seeds were planted..there was a long period of dryness, then storms came and covered them, then the sun came out for a few days to warm them, then the rain came, and now they bloom. 🙂 Just think on that awhile..you might find it applies pretty well to our lives as humans 🙂 Seeds don’t grow instantly..they have to go through a process which involves many different seasons. But just when you think you can’t stand another day of “winter”, the seeds start to sprout into a plant..and if it’s a well taken care of seed/plant, the roots are deep and strong and the plant thrives. Hmm..this works either way…with rotten filthy plants, and with beautiful plants. We better be careful which seeds we plant and nurture!

Dwell on beauty. Focus on the upcoming victory, don’t get caught up in the temporary defeat of the moment. It’s just a season. And your season of harvest is coming! Oh, I pray it’s a harvest of a beautiful, well rooted plant for you. Not one that will need to be plucked.

Remember..even beautiful plants need pruning. 🙂 It may hurt for a season, but soon you will grow even bigger and more beautiful than before.

Have you ever noticed that not all of the plants/flowers bloom at the same exact time? Hmm Must mean that their perfect timing hasn’t arrived yet. If they bloomed prematurely they would die b/c they wouldn’t be in an atmosphere where they could thrive. If they bloomed too late, they wouldn’t have lasting beauty because their season was cut short and they didn’t have time to fully grow in to a strong healthy plant. It’s important to wait..in the promise is the victory. We wait with the promise. Believing in the victory. And, just at the right time the bud opens up into the flower..VICTORY!! But what do we do in the waiting? In the “promise” period? What we need to do is trust that the victory is coming. And we need to prepare for that victory. By fertilizing. Get in The Word. Fertilize your soul with the truth. Have faith in the promise and wait with expectation for the victory! Cuz the big victory IS coming friends. And, it will be just on time. Don’t rush it. Prepare for it.

In the Promise season there are many tiny victories..which lead to a magnificently huge victory. Oh I love huge victories. 🙂 Tiny victories are like a chocolate chip cookie. They’re yummy, but you want more. And the huge victory is like a magnificently gooey goosebump inducing Lava Cake. Overflowing with decadent richness and filling every cell of your body with extreme passionate joy like nothing else you’ve experienced. Victory..it’s sweet. It’s here in little bits at first, and then, when we are strong enough to handle the wave, it comes gushing forth in a magnificently flowing abundant flood! Yahoo! The Lord is the perfect “baker” and “gardener”!

Blessings,

Sarah

You Have Everything You Will Ever Need

20130423-211208.jpg

No weapon formed against you shall prosper..unless you let it.

Wait, what?

Yes. It’s true. The weapons formed against you are worthless. They have no capacity to harm you. It’s a promise.

..Unless you let them..

Did you ever see a place in the Bible where the truth was forced on anyone? Where Jesus strong armed someone into taking hold of the truth? I haven’t seen that. I saw Him again and again present the truth and accompanying freedom, but never forced it on anyone. He was real big on free choice.

So..the TRUTH is, no weapon formed against you will prosper. But, that’s not a truth that you are required to take hold of.

You have a choice.

You can accept the truth and walk it out. Or, you can decide that every weapon formed against you is surely going to overtake and kill you. That you’ll never make it out of the current situation. That God’s not big enough to handle YOUR problem. You can choose to fall down and let the circumstances trample you.

You can effectively throw out the truth of the situation, and instead embrace the lie. You can reject freedom. You can reject safety. You can reject growth.

It’s your choice.

But in rejecting the promise, you also reject the truth. Succumbing to a life filled with deception and lies.

My daughter has been fighting pain in her tailbone after a fall this last winter. She told me, in no uncertain terms, “I will never dance again.” (SheLOVES to Dance to those video game dance things, and is amazing at it.)

I told her, “Don’t say that, you WILL dance. Just determine to do it. Your body will eventually line up with your thoughts.”

She replied something to the effect that she had tried, but it just hurts..so shes not going to do it anymore.

I heard The Lord say as clear as day, as if He were physically sitting right next to me, “She is allowing the weapon formed against her prosper.”

So I shared that word with her. Since then she has refused to “lay down and die,” and has seen a difference. She still has pain at times, but she’s realized it’s not the end of the world, and it goes away. It doesn’t have to effect her joy, or her life.

The devil wanted her incapacitated, hopeless, and depressed. The Lord says, “Pick up your bed and WALK!”

So, what weapons of the enemy are you allowing to prosper in your life today? We all have something. What issue is The Lord asking you to drop at His feet? What area in your life is He telling you, “Pick up your bed and walk”?

If weapons formed against you had to prosper, He wouldn’t have said that they won’t (Isaiah 54:17). If you couldn’t get past infirmities, He never would have said pick up your bed and walk (John 5:8). If He wanted you living in bondage, He never would have come to set you free (Luke 4:18, Galatians 5:1, John 8:36).

You are FREE. You are more than a conqueror. You are not required to continue letting the weapons prosper.

You can change direction.

Don’t wait around for someone else to make the changes for you, or bring the healing.

The healing is already yours.

The freedom is already yours.

The capacity to change is already yours.

The ability to overcome is already yours.

Every promise He ever gave was fulfilled at the cross, you lack for nothing.

He’s given you everything, you’re fully equipped for victory.

Right now.

This very moment.

Disease, sickness, depression, stress, anxiety, and hopelessness have no place in the mind of the believer. So pick up your spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:10-17), kick those lies to the curb and walk out in victory! You’re a mighty warrior! Stand tall!

Blessings,

Sarah

Did You Say, “I Love you!” Or “You Disgust Me!”??

20130410-222452.jpg

It’s so easy when we have known someone so long to think we just “know” exactly what they realllly mean when they say or do this or that. But the truth is, we don’t. And the enemy is always right there to take advantage of that, planting the seed of discord. Let’s not allow him to do that anymore. Let’s choose to react in love, and believe the best of our loved ones. Maybe as we do that for them, they’ll do it for us, too. 🙂

Have a wonderful day, friends!

Blessings,

Sarah

Today’s Devotional Selection:

Communication and Conflict
from Focus on the Family

We are called to be attentive to one another in marriage, to stop and listen and to learn about each other.

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. James 1:19

As men and women our differences go beyond the obvious physical ones. We think differently, we respond differently, different things catch our hearts. However, we are too-often inclined to ignore that fact and plow through life with our own perceptions of how others should live and respond. The harvest of that kind of mentality can be misunderstanding, resentment, and alienation.

We are called to be attentive to one another in marriage, to stop and listen and to learn about each other. We must be willing to ask; we must be willing to reveal. Much can be learned about one another by how we live, but there are also things that words can give life and understanding to.

Conflict is inevitable, and often it is through conflict that we come in touch with the deep places and real meanings of our feelings. It is often only through times of discord that we can identify and offer the deepest content of our hearts. What we must remember in these moments is that our spouse is not the enemy. It sounds odd perhaps, but couples often come at each other from that very stance. In that place where little listening occurs, painful and damaging words are spoken, and anger isolates.

Consider James’ words, what a compelling picture of relationship. When we look at one another in marriage, when we realize that this is just the person we need to help us become who God has made us to be, then our hearts are more likely to respond in attentive tenderness.

Father, you communicated your love to us by sending Jesus to live and die for us. You bring us together in marriage, we who are so very different, and you call us to communicate with one another the very love we receive from you. Teach us, Father, how to do that in a way that honors each other and glorifies You.
